Plug & Charge compatible hardware

Plug & Charge is only just starting to expand into the mainstream but there is a steadily growing list of charging stations and vehicles which support the feature. Octopus Energy has a maintained list which can be found here: https://electroverse.octopus.energy/community/ev-blogs-and-guides/what-is-plug-and-charge

Enable Plug & Charge

Plug & Charge is automatically enabled for all Switch customers - give it a go!

Plug & Charge sessions

A Plug & Charge session by its nature happens without any intervention needed. If the driver has enabled the setting in their vehicle it will attempt to start a session using Plug & Charge with the charger. If the charger supports it the request will come to Switch and if the account is enabled for it Switch will process the request and authorise the certificates via Hubject.

Following a successful authorisation a card will appear in the charging station and session activity logs indicating that Plug & Charge was successfully authorised via Hubject.

The charging session will then proceed as normal until terminated by the driver.

Customers using the ISO 15118 Protocol Analyser feature will see all of the detail of the messages between vehicle and charging station during the negotiation of a Plug & Charge session on Switch (see Message Logs)
